Doubles is a pretty straightforward video slot that looks back at the trends from the past to come up with a unique theme. While the fruit reels are nothing new in the online gaming world, you probably haven’t seen ones quite like this – intentionally heavy-handed reel graphics remind of the past decades, including a colourful background landscape done in a rudimentary 3D look. Did Yggdrasil let its interns design this game? Probably not – the look absolutely works here, especially in the combination with the classic fruit, diamond and horseshoe symbols. The 5×3 layout breaks no boundaries here, and there aren’t many special symbols on the reels, apart from the wild and the Free Spin-designated scatter. When it comes to free rounds, you can get up to 40 spins if you’re lucky enough to land five scatters, while three or four of these symbols get you 10 or 20 free rounds, respectively. Once in free spins, you can choose any of the reel symbols to be your preferred double win symbol: which ever one you choose will effectively get a 2x multiplier applied to it if you land a win line in the free spins. And best of all – there are no paylines. Instead, you have 243 ways to win: all you need is for matching symbols to fall on adjacent reels, regardless of their position on the reel.

Despite the lack of bells and whistles on this game, Doubles delivers a solid overall package, chock-full of high-paying symbols and loads of free spins.
