Gameplay

Star Trek Red Alert is one for the old school fans. The ones who miss the days when William Shatner was slim and cool (well, as cool as he’s ever been). Everything about this slot game from Scientific Games is retro. The visuals, the sound, the theme. There are no Chris Pines or Simon Peggs to be seen, just the original gang: Captain Kirk, Spock, and McCoy all make an appearance, facing off against the terrifying presence of the Klingons. In addition to these character symbols, any fan will recognise the phaser and communications unit. The gameplay is also traditional, with a 5×3 slot reel set. The paylines are fixed, but you can set your bet anywhere between 0.35 coins per spin and 105 coins per spin. The bet is adjustable by 0.01, giving you complete control over your stake. The best part of this game by far is the bonus feature. Although, in essence, it is just a series of free spins, it adds a lot of fun to the game. Match at least three feature symbols and you will be tasked with defending the Enterprise against an attack. Match symbols in the spins to fire and destroy the oncoming ships. If the ship is hit too many times, then your shields will fail and the round will be over. It is possible to recharge your shields, however, by matching three feature symbols during the spins. You also have a 50/50 chance of fully recharging after you have run out of spins. During the feature, each ship you destroy adds a multiplier to your winnings from that spin, meaning that there are great chances for high wins. It is also one of the easier features to trigger in our experience, when compared to other slot games.

Conclusion – Set Your Phasers to Fun

If you didn’t bother to trek through this review, then it’s probably best to just say that this is a decent overall game, with a great bonus game. Yes, the graphics and sound are as retro as they come, but isn’t that part of the fun of still being a fan of a TV show from the 60s? If you agree, then give Scientific Games’ Star Trek Red Alert a go. Have a blast playing this space-age adventure? Let us know in the comments below.
