Dorothy and Toto are back in this themed slot from Scientific Games, attempting to recreate the magic of the incredibly popular movie from the 1930s. Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers is one of a few games this developer has built based on the movie, and is a simple five-reel, three-row setup with 30 paylines. The symbols are all exactly what you’d expect if you know anything about the movie. Interestingly though, the highlighted object from the title is barely present in the game, with Dorothy’s magic shoes instead making an appearance as a special feature, activated on certain non-winning spins to change up to four reels into glittery wild. The main characters from the movie are here too as feature-triggering symbols – finding one on reel five plus another scattered between reels 1-4 will start a bonus game called Find the Broom. You’ll fly through the hills to a new location to select randomly from a pick field of 25 coins for multipliers and winning coins from face characters, each of which will force play a small snippet of film from the movie itself. While it’s nice to see actual footage once, there is only one clip assigned to each character, so it is repeated every time. The footage isn’t the only copyrighted media included – four of the most famous songs are used in the free spin, bonus and super big win parts of the game. Normal spins happen in complete silence apart from some sound effects when clicking on the spin button or when changing bet values and paylines. This is probably a good thing, as you can only imagine how tedious a loop of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ would become if it were constantly looped – hearing it in the Big Win is enough.
